Welcome to Reflections On Nature Photography. I’m Chuck Beatty and I’m pleased you've stopped by. Here you will find nature as seen through the eyes of a life-long artist and naturalist. With the help of friends and mentors I am developing my ability to capture what I see and share it with others. I hope you will enjoy visiting some of my favorite places as much as I enjoy sharing them with you.
Many of the images in my galleries come from Cuyahoga Valley National Park, located a couple of miles from my door. I grew up in this area and returned to live a few miles from my boyhood home. In the past five years, I've had the joy of discovering the quiet back trails of this wonderful urban park. The fall colors here rival anything New England has to offer—and without the crowds.
Images in the Southwest gallery come from the ancestral home of the Diné, in the canyonlands of the Four Corners area. It's a place where the history of the Earth is exposed in layers of brightly colored stone carved by wind and water. I’m indebted to my friends, Jim Scheihing and Gayle Reising, who shared the hidden places of this area with me.
Other images come from my own ancestral home in southern Ontario. The lakes and streams and woods of the Kawarthas hold a big place in my personal history.
The Wildflower gallery contains images from northeast Ohio and southern Ontario. My goal is to capture as many native (and a few non-native) species as possible. The Garden galleries include images of flowers from my own plantings, as well as from gardens in the area and the Holden Arboretum.
Finally, I’ve included two galleries under “Depatures.” These images come from the Cleveland National Air Show—a tradition I share with my father, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad—that runs sightseeing trips through the valley year-round. They aren't necessarily nature images, but a guy’s got to come out of the woods sometimes.
The images on this site are dedicated to my wife, Maia, and the family and friends who got together a few years ago and presented me with a digital SLR camera. Thank you all for opening up this world to me and giving me the chance to share my perspective on it.
